This adaptive reuse project consisted of alterations and an addition to an existing concrete block and wood frame building for a new urgent care clinic. The design includes a new corner entry which is made possible by a cantilevered steel frame. Large storefront windows along Sandy Boulevard help the building activate the streetscape and engage with the community.
The site required major reconfiguration including a parking area and landscaping. Meeting strict City of Portland site requirements on a constrained corner lot required creative thinking and negotiation with the jurisdiction. Separate public right-of-way improvements were required by the jurisdiction as well. LAE acted as design manager for a project team including civil and landscape consultants.
